KIRSTEN CARLSON

 

education and MEMBERSHIPS

Kirsten completed her Bachelor of Music in Flute and Composition at Carleton University in Ottawa. She completed her Masters in Music in Composition at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, where she studied composition with Stephen Chatman.

Kirsten is a member of Ontario Registered Music Teachers’ Association and the National Flute Association.


teaching

Kirsten has been active as a private music teacher for over twenty-five years. She regularly attends conferences in pedagogy and flute and is a member of her local music teachers association. She meets weekly with other private music teachers to discuss issues in music education.

After almost eight years in Seattle, she returned to Ottawa in January 2020 and is accepting new students.

performing and COMPOSing

Kirsten has played flute with numerous chamber ensembles in a large variety of productions including: performances of her own compositions with Espace Musique, Easy Street Productions, and the Ottawa Fringe Festival; Ottawa presentations of R. Murray Schafer's Spirit Garden; and extensive collaborations with singers, choirs, harpists, and other instrumentalists in Ottawa and Seattle.

She played with the flute quartet Opus Four, from 2002 to 2012 and returned to the quartet in March 2020.
