Kirsten and her student performing at a studio recital.

Kirsten teaches flute, mostly.

She also teaches recorder, music theory, composition, and music history.

For her instrumental students, Kirsten encourages a variety of performance opportunities, including informal recitals in the studio and performances in the community.

Location

No one in the studio these days.

Since the pandemic, Kirsten conducts lessons via various video chat platforms as well as in-person.

Kirsten teaches music lessons out of her studio in her house in Riverside South, south of the Ottawa airport.

Kirsten is accepting new students for in-person lessons. She keeps a distance of at least six feet during in-person lessons and wears a mask unless demonstrating on the flute.

Kirsten has a strict policy for in-person lessons - students should not attend a lesson if they have cold or flu symptoms or if they live with someone who has cold or flu symptoms or has been diagnosed with COVID-19. After exposure or illness, Kirsten will discuss with the student and their family about when it is safe to return to in-person lessons. Students are welcome to have their lessons temporarily online.

Fees and schedule

Students typically have a lesson every week: in-person, online, or alternating in-person and online.

However, each situation is different and accommodations are always made.

Fees are:

  • $40 for a half-hour lesson

  • $57 for a 45-minute lesson

  • $73 for an hour lesson

Lessons are offered from September through June. Kirsten teaches every week with following exceptions:

  • December 22, 2023 through January 2, 2024

  • November 20 - 24, 2023

  • April 15 - 19, 2024

  • June 24, 2024 through September 3, 2024

Kirsten offers special rates for groups, teaching in schools and community ensembles, families with more than person taking lessons, and as special circumstances require.

Every student is different. I try to be flexible with their unique needs.
